On your first visit to our office, you will be greeted by members of our staff, who will treat you like family. If you didn't print out your paperwork from our website, you will be given a few forms to fill out that will help the doctor with your health history and the nature of your problem.
After completing the paperwork, you'll meet one of the Dr. Julians and begin your examination. To really understand what it is we are looking for, a patient should first understand how Chiropractic works. We can then go on to explain WHAT it is we are looking for... and then finally HOW we look for it.
Chiropractic looks for "subluxations," or structural
abnormalities which may be affecting or causing your condition. A subluxation
is when one or more bones in your spine have misaligned or are putting abnormal
amounts of pressure on your nerves, which in turn cause your body to adapt
in a negative way: producing pain, swelling, altered posture, degeneration
in your bones, organic dysfunction, or a combination of these effects.
Remember, your spinal cord is what houses the nervous system, which controls and coordinates the function of all the systems in the body: circulatory, respiratory, digestive, eliminative, hormonal and immune. Spinal nerve impulses are what allow your brain and body to communicate.
Think of the spinal nerve as a water hose. You're out watering your flowers and someone comes and kinks the hose. What happens? Water still comes out, but at a much decreased rate. Chiropractic finds the "kinks" (the subluxations) in your spine and helps to reduce the pressure, allowing normal flow of nerve impulses.
